The Trans Tasman Radiation Oncology Group, established in 1989 is dedicated to the treatment and control of a wide range of cancers through the conduct of research at over 60 cancer treatment centres in Australia, New Zealand and throughout the world.  TROG works with these centres to facilitate research into all cancers that can be treated with radiotherapy, either alone or in combination with other treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy.

The aim of our research program is to improve patient care and cancer treatment outcomes through the development of more effective treatments for cancer. Cancers studied by TROG include breast, rectum, prostate, endometrial oesophagus, lung, bladder, lymphoma, melanoma and other forms of skin cancers, brain tumours and bone metastases.

To date, TROG has activated over 60 cancer research trials in Australia and New Zealand. Over 300 Doctors and other dedicated researchers have contributed to TROG’s research over the last 21 years which has resulted in the involvement of over 8,500 patients in our clinical trial research program.

Many patients that have been involved with TROG trials have helped to change and shape treatment practices to improve the control of cancer throughout the national and international communities. Their participation has also led to a shift in the way Clinical Research has been viewed in the community, with a focus on the potential positive impact that your contribution and participation in Clinical Trials can have, not only on your own health, but on the health of your family, friends and thousands of others throughout Australia, New Zealand and the world!

WHAT IS A CLINICAL TRIAL?

TROG is closely associated with Cancer Council NSW, who are dedicated to the ongoing mission of defeating cancer. As part of this mission, Cancer Council NSW has developed a range of booklets that are available in many cancer treatment centres in NSW to inform patients, their families, carers and friends about a range of topics, including clinical trials.

If youd like to learn more about cancer clinical trials please visit the Cancer Council's Research page.

ARE TROG CLINICAL TRIALS SAFE?

TROG clinical trials are safe, well researched and supported, and at the forefront of expert opinion on how to improve treatment of particular diseases.

A TROG clinical trial cannot be conducted without the approval of the members of TROG, other experts in related fields, hospitals and cancer centres, ethics committees, government funding bodies and most importantly, patients. All TROG trials are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure the SAFETY and WELLBEING of those who are participating.

Participating in clinical trials is completely voluntary and you can choose to withdraw at anytime. Also confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Trial documents are de-identified and personal details will not be disclosed in any report from the trial.
